Younus Al Nasser is the Assistant Director General of the Smart Dubai Office, guiding Dubai’s citywide effort to transform Dubai into the world’s smartest city by 2017.
Younus Al Nasser is also the CEO of the Dubai Data Establishment, part of the Smart Dubai Office, charged with overseeing the implement of the Dubai Data Initiative, the most ambitious data initiative globally, and fostering a culture of data sharing in Dubai.
Prior to that, he was a Director of Projects and Security Systems in Dubai Electronic Security Centre Implementing Agile and Lean Methodologies in Project Management and member of Dubai Open Data Committee which was formed in November 2014 with a Decree from H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Al Maktoum to deliver Dubai Data Strategy, Dubai Data Road Map and Dubai Data Law.
Daniel Tapiador has extensive experience focusing on the creation of value from data. As Director - Big Data Monetization in du, he manages the Data Science product portfolio. In the past, he has led similar products in other Telcos like Mobily and Telefonica. He has also worked at the European Space Agency for eight years, focusing on the data processing and archiving of the large data sets being produced by scientific missions. He holds a MS in Computer Science and is just about to obtain his PhD.
Anthony Butler is CTO for IBM Cloud in Middle East and Africa; providing technical leadership across IBM’s cloud services and software portfolio and focusing on helping clients unlock new sources of value through the use of cloud-based technologies, such as blockchain and cognitive computing. Prior to this, he was Chief Architect, IBM Global Technology Services for Middle East and Africa, where he was responsible for leading complex services solutions for clients across the region. Before relocating to the UAE, he was based in Australia, and held a global role as Chief Architect leading a multi-year IT transformation for one of IBM’s largest clients. He is a member of IBM’s Academy of Technology and has numerous patent filings in the fields of cloud, blockchain, analytics, and security technologies. He holds a Masters of Engineering from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
Sunil is the business unit executive leading the Analytics division of IBM MEA. He has been in region for over 8 years. He started his MEA journey in South Africa establishing the Analytics capabilities and is now based in Dubai.
Sunil has over 20 years of experience in the analytics solutions business. He has lived and worked in several regions across the world and in his current role is responsible for helping organisations drive new insights and value leveraging IBM’s Watson capabilities and Analytics industry solutions.
He is passionate about people and people development and counts this as one of his key strengths which helps him build successful teams.
Dr. Mohsen Farid, PhD, has an established track record as an academic in data and computational science, HCI and Information Theoretic approach to data, natural language, physical systems and measurements. Dr Farid served as a professor and department head at a number of US academic institutions. Mohsen believes in the link between academic research and industrial and technological applications and has maintained active role in consulting and engaging in knowledge transfer through Knowledge Transfer Programs (KTP) and others in which close collaboration with industrial partners is maintained via Associates who are mentored to provide unique and needed applied expertise. He has also served in the UNESCO as an advisor to member countries.
Dr. Farid’s career involved working and consulting to industry. He worked at senior managerial as well as at consulting capacity for multinational corporations such as Mitutoyo Tools and Instruments where he co-developed the software for the coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and statistical process control. He also served at IBM, Microsoft and JPMorgan among others as a senior technical consultant. He also served as Senior Information Officer at the largest Oil Refinery in the Middle East (MIDOR). As part of his knowledge transfer engagements, he is working at a consulting and mentoring capacity to provide machine learning (ML) intelligent software systems to retailers such as Walmart in the US and Sainsbury’s in the UK.
Dr. Farid received an “Honourable Mention” from the US Army for work on Data Mining of Breast Cancer Research.
Mohsen is a senior member of IEEE, Fellow of Royal Society for the Arts (RSA), Member in the International Statistical Institute – International Association for Statistical Computing (ISI-IASC), the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and the Association for Computing (ACM). He is the program co-chair of BDCAT2017 in Austin, Texas, USA. He was also a member of technical and program committees for IEEE and ACM BDCAT2016, UCC2016, ICOSST2016 conferences among others. He is also a frequent speaker in academic and industry conferences. Dr. Farid is also a reviewer for a number of specialized journals including the British Computer Society (BCS).
His research interests are in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing (sentiments and emotions), Human-Computer Interaction, Information Theory and Theoretical Physics. Dr Farid is the director of the MSc program in Big Data Analytics at the University of Derby and is currently supervising a number of PhD and MSc students.
Dr. Farid is currently an associate professor of data science and a fellow of the Big Data Laboratory at the University of Derby, the United Kingdom.

Kyrgyz entrepreneur Ulugbek Yuldashev is the founder and chief executive officer of AWOK.com, which is, one of the leading online retail platforms in the UAE. He founded the online store in 2013, which commenced operations, by selling electronics and gadgets. The company has grown rapidly since its inception, offers over 50,000 products across 30 plus categories, and employs close to 500 people.
Yuldashev has had a flair for business since an early age and started his first company in 2004, when he was just 19 years old. It was a retail and wholesale business in Kyrgyzstan named Domashniy (Russian for Home Center).
In 2006, the ambitious young entrepreneur moved to Dubai and in 2008 established the wholesale company Gulf Alabel Technologies LLC.
