Dubai Municipality becomes first government agency to issue digital contracts

In line with the government’s strategy to go paperless and spur the development of digital transformation, Dubai Municipality is ready to make all future contracts digital.

The Dubai Municipality, which recently completed a record-breaking 3D printed building, said it was awaiting legal approval to finalise the first digital contracts.

As a result, it will become the first government agency in Dubai to issue digital contracts.

Contractors and suppliers will be able to agree deals in digital form with the government agency by securing approvals and making electronic signatures.

Dawoud Al Hajri, director general of Dubai Municipality, said the move will enhance Dubai’s status in the smart city space.

“To further Dubai's global leadership in the smart city sector, and in line with the Dubai Paperless Strategy 2021, launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, in February 2018, in order to digitise all internal and external government transactions and make them paperless, the municipality has succeeded in qualifying its team and the support mechanisms to issue their contracts digitally, which is a major achievement in the digital transformation of contractual procedures.”
